Odd company names

edited February 2013 in Free speech space
In the last week I have seen the vans of Spaghetti Construction (surely needs a structural engineer!) and Rational Kitchens. I long to see an irrational one. Many year ago when I lived in Hampshire, there was Savage Motorcycles. You must have more!

Comments

  • A company specializing in round kitchens could rationally be called Irrational Kitchens.
  • One of my favourites is Kingbright LEDs. Always makes me think of 'king bright LEDs.

    David
  • We have an industrial equipment company here called Multidick - I don't think they do scaffold erection though ;)

    Paul in Montreal

p.s. reminds me of Philip Shovlin heavy machinery rentals in Manchester and R. Boddy Funeral Directors in Hull :)
  • The famous old one - true, my mum worked there for a bit - Doolittle and Daley, Est Ags.
Spook Erection in the Cotswolds - used to see it, long gone I regret.

  • But I am really waiting until Ikea name some thing really rude

i believe they already have to the Czech
  • Luckily the Czechs have a good sense of humour, well the 3 I have met have. One, who was a woman, was as funny as Borat, before Borat existed, but much better looking.

How about Fecken Kirfel http://www.fecken-kirfel.de/de/ a German foam cutting machinery manufacturer with many machines I've seen commissioned in the UK. Watch those fingers!!
  • Went past a van last night with Burnt tree removals written on the side. Either an odd name for a removal firm or a very specialist job
  • 'Heavy plant moving'
  • I always imagine the Day Of Triffids when I see that one.

They're still around. They supplied all the tracked machinery that also runs on rails when a new platform was added at Cambridge station. http://www.shovlin.co.uk/

I should not laugh at odd names as I saw the van in a place called Horrabridge just down the road from Crapstone.
  • There's a construction company here in Quebec called "Construction Longer" - for those projects when you're not in a hurry! http://www.constructionlonger.com/

    Paul in Montreal.

Funny names, we have Trink, Troon, Gweek, Ventongimps (very famous for its farmer) and my favourite, Broadwoodwidger, which I think is also an offence as well as where James Lovelock lives.
  • Suck-Cess Drainage Services always raised a smile with me! Oh and Grate Expectations !

OK then, reminds me there was an Indonesian (I think) politician whose progress on the international stage was halted by his name - Lee Bum Suk. Then there was allegedly the Lee Kee Boot & Shoe Co of Hong Kong. And Toyota couldn't sell the MR2 in France because - well, pronounce it. The Alfa Duetto (The Graduate) meant something v suggestive in Latin America, until imaginatively re-named Alfa Spider.

Worse than Muffin the Mule? and those yokels who keep mountin' sheep?
  • Somewhere I have a photo of a windscreen replacement company's van with no glass in the rear windows.

Oh, and a van advertising 'Dragon maintenance'. Again, a niche market.....

I had a friend who worked for GEC-Plessey Telecommunications - known as GPT in the UK. They never could understand why they were not able to sell anything in France until someone over there pronounced their acronym in French!

    Paul in Montreal.
  • Enter http://bit.ly/YKnKGD in your browser and click on the speaker icon on the French side to hear how GPT is pronounced ... and see the translation :)
